Selma – Bessie LaVerne Underhill Jones, age 79, died early Friday morning, April 20, 2018 in Barbour Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Smithfield. Born on April 14, 1939 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Addie Louise Davis Underhill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Jones; brother, James Robert Underhill; and sisters, Mary Ethel Wall, Dollie Mae Owen, Cora Edith Fowler, and Martha Marguerite Martin. LaVerne was a member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in Micro.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Willie Summerlin officiating. Burial will follow in Bizzell Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday just prior to the service.
Surviving are sons, Billy Lee Jones of Smithfield, and Charles Linwood Jones and wife Donna of Youngsville; daughters, Shelby Diane Jones Smith of Black Creek, and Linda Rose Jones Givens and husband Jonathan of Lynchburg, VA; sisters, Anna Wiggs of Waverly, VA and Emma Jean Tilley of Clayton; grandchildren, Charity Givens and husband Andrew Jones, Sarah Hicks, and Joy Givens; and great grandchild, Logan Hicks.
