Lee Albert Hayes

    Benson, NC: Mr. Lee Albert Hayes, age 70, of 311 George Street died Saturday at his residence. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Revs. C. H. Lee, Bill West, and Dwight Braswell. Burial will follow in Hood’s Grove Baptist Church in Newton Grove with military honors.
    Mr. Hayes was born November 22, 1946 in Harnett County to the late Alton Lee Hayes and Ruby Lee Hayes McLeod. He was preceded in death by grandson, Johnathan Lee Norris and sisters, Wilma Jean Hayes and Judy Hayes Lee. Mr. Hayes retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections after over 30 years of service. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War and was awarded a lifetime membership to the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Mr. Hayes was a member of the American Legion Banner Post 109 in Benson, lifetime member of both the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 990 and Disabled American Veterans. He also served as a captain of the Benson Rescue Squad. Mr. Hayes was a member of Hood’s Grove Baptist Church where he served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and sang in the choir.
    Surviving are wife of 49 years, Jeanne Parker Hayes of Benson; Daughters and sons-in-law, Clarise H. and Leroy Norris, Jr. of Benson, Julie H. and Chris Olive of Benson, Connie and Travis Lassiter of Four Oaks; son, Rodney and Renee Hayes of Benson; six grandchildren, Hunter Hayes and wife, Lindsey, Cassidy Hayes, Justin Norris and Tiffany Massengill, Destiny Norris and Brandon McLamb, Paul Olive, Anna Olive; step-grandchildren, Lesley Rhodes, Garrett Rhodes, Kori Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Laysen, River, Lucas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bobbie H. and Bruce Blackmon of Newton Grove, Kay H. and Shelton Mitchell of Princeton, Linda H. and Charlie Mitchell of Princeton; Brenda H. Stewart of Meadow, Ann H. and Stacy Parker of Four Oaks, Sue and Myron Massengill of Meadow, Gwen H. and Jeffery Lee of Meadow, Wenn H. and Doc Mitchell of Princeton; Faye and Max Johnson of Four Oaks; numerous nieces and nephews.
    The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Monday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home.
