Lewis L. Thomas, Jr., age 73, of Smithfield, formerly of Snow Hill, drowned on May 26 at Holt Lake. Born in Greene County on October 7, 1943, he was the son of Sybil Thomas of Snow Hill and the late Lewis Thomas. L.L. proudly served his country during the Vietnam War era following his enlistment in the US Air Force. He was employed for many years with Rain and Hail Insurance. L.L. enjoyed fishing, wildlife at the lake and serving the Lord.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Nancy Gay Thomas. He was the step-father of Robin Barton and husband Jeffory, Donald Gay, Jr. and wife Susan. He was the cherished brother of Martha Ann Goins and her late husband Don, Christy Letchworth and husband James, Dorothy Harrison and husband Chester, Rudy Thomas and wife Sylvia. He was grandfather to Dwight Gay, Noelle and Ronald Rousseau, Jeffory and Raven Barton, Rachel Richardson and husband Aaron and great grandfather to Avery Belle Gay. He also has many nieces, nephews, and other family members and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma. Burial with military honors will be in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10-11, just prior to the service.
