Linda Morton Nelke, age 79, of Garner, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday morning October 18, 2021. She was born July 18, 1942 in Greenville, NC to Luther and Bernice Morton.
Linda was the kindest, most generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and most importantly, child of God and follower of Jesus Christ. She spent her life serving, caring for, and loving others. Linda worked over 40 years selling real estate and owning companies in Havelock and Clayton, NC. By her character and work ethic, she was known as one of the best brokers in Johnston County. She helped many area realtors begin successful careers. Her true passion and love has been for her husband, children, grandchildren, friends, church family and her Lord. She spent so much of her time teaching her children and grandchildren good character in all areas of life.
In addition to all this, she was an avid cook producing many gourmet and good ole southern meals. She loved cooking for her family, church, friends and neighbors. Many have been blessed by hams, soup, chicken salad, pound cakes, lemon pies and so much more. There are not enough words to describe the love she showered on others and how greatly she will be missed. We rejoice in her salvation and that she is eternally in the presence of God.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Herbert Nelke; children, Paul (Cindy) Mason, Karen (Jeff) Patterson, Michael (Christina) Mason; stepdaughters, Suzanne (Bill) McCeney, Margot (Vance) Holloman, grandchildren, Seth (Lindsey) Mason, Jake Mason, Amanda Patterson, Alexander Patterson, Austin Patterson, James (Claire) McCeney, Andrew (Kelsy) McCeney, Connor McCeney; great grandson, Preston Evans, Matthew and Marie McCeney; sister Patricia Croom; brother Ron (Carolyn) Morton as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Bernice Morton; grandchildren, Gage Mason, Skylar Mason.
A visitation will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 9:00am until the time of her Celebration of Life service starting at 11:00am at Wildwood Baptist Church, 5788 Cornwallis Rd, Garner, NC 27529. The interment will follow the service at Pinecrest Memorial Park, 12830 US 70 Business Hwy W., Clayton, NC 27520.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Linda’s name can be made to the SECU Hospice House 426 Hospital Rd. Smithfield, NC 27577 or to St. Jude Childrens’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

I worked for Mrs Nelke for some time years ago. Such a kind and sweet lady. She was a very smart lady as well. Some people leave your life and leave a lasting smile in your heart. Linda did that. I think of her and smile.
