Lonnie Edward “Ed” Johnson, age 97, of Selma, passed away on December 18, 2017. Born in Johnston County on January 10, 1920, he was the son of the late Alonza and Bertha Jones Johnson. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife Ila Mae Creech Johnson in 2008. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of Divine Crossings Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 21, at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Rev. Ricky Anderson officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Oakland Heights Cemetery in Smithfield. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 1-2 PM.
Surviving are his son, Eddie Johnson of Selma; daughters Cheryl Register and husband Wayne, Carolyn Crumpler and husband Darwin, both of Smithfield; grandchildren, Kenneth Register, Kevin Register, Cynthia Register, Christy Mitteldorfer, Lauren Johnson and Anna Johnson; and twelve great grandchildren.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Divine Crossings Baptist Church, 440 Little Divine Rd., Selma, NC 27576.
