Smithfield – Lucille Parnell Smith, age 96, died Thursday, August 10, 2017 in UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield. Born June 9, 1921 in Johnston County to the late Thomas and Peninah Wood Parnell, she was the widow of Lawrence Rose Smith. Lucy was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Gene Smith and Tommy Rose Smith; brothers, Herbert Parnell and Lawrence Parnell and sisters, Viola Radford, Gladys Daughtry, Ruby Braswell, Nellie Braswell and Christine Rementer. She was retired from Fieldcrest Mills in Smithfield.
Funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017, in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Nowell officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Heights Cemetery in Smithfield. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. just prior to the service.
Surviving are her son, Rusty Smith and wife Belinda of Smithfield; daughters, Janice Worley and Judy Jones both of Smithfield; daughter-in-law, Muriel Smith of Clinton; eight grandchildren, Brian Jones of Smithfield, Brittany Smith of Raleigh, Brandon Smith of Raleigh, Michael Worley of Smithfield, Ronald Worley of Princeton, Keith Smith of Clinton, Amanda Smith of Salemburg and Cindy Gibson of Newton Grove; nine great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
