Clayton – Manuel Leroy Hairston, age 87, died Saturday, June 16, 2018 in SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born March 26, 1931 in Filbert, WV he was a son of the late James Matt and Manila Geter Hairston. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Toleda, Elisie, and Bernice; and brothers, Jerdo, James (Morrell), Warren, George Alfred, Parnell, Paul, Manuel, Leroy. He was a US Army veteran.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Vontayne Smith officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be conducted at 12:00 noon at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Friday just prior to the service.
Surviving are his wife, Arintha Poe Hairston; son, Manuel Leroy Hairston, Jr. and wife Kathy of Four Oaks; daughters, Tammy R. Hairston of Clayton, Donna Bonner and husband Larry Sr. of Silver Springs, MD, and Dorothy Still of Martinsville, VA; brother, Everett Hairston of Roselle, NJ; sisters, Rev. Shirley Miller of Cleveland, OH, Costella Hairston of Williamson, WV, and Chiquilla Polain of Conyers, GA and Jean Robinson and Dena Walters, both of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Devin Carter, DeChanta Shelton, Larry Bonner, II, Jimmy Richardson, Brandon Richardson, Stephen Richardson, Chris Richardson, Kelly Richardson, and Kayla Richardson; and great grandchildren, Arielle, Alexus, Junior, Trinity, Maleeyah, James Jr., Isaiah, and Christian and numerous nieces and nephews and other family.
