Margaret Ann Scott

    Birth Date: 05/13/1938
    Deceased Date: 06/03/2020

Margaret Ann Cervantes Scott, age 82, left this world to be with Jesus on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 8:55 a.m. in SECU Hospice House in Smithfield after battling cancer. She was a brave warrior.

Born on May 13, 1938 in Gary, Indiana she was a daughter of the late Louis and Celia Dominguez Cervantes. She was an active member of Smithfield First Pentecostal Church.

After moving to North Carolina in 1960, she was a devoted wife and mother and eventually worked outside the home as her children became teenagers. Then after 33 years of marriage, she was divorced but a year and a half later met and married her soulmate, Scotty. Margaret worked as a dietary aide for Wayne Memorial Hospital for 11 years before retiring in 2005. At that time, her and Scotty, also recently retired, decided to be adventurous and move to Mexico, which they did and lived there for 7 years and had many memorable times followed by a move to Texas for 5 years. They then wanted to move back home to NC to be closer to family on October 31, 2017.

On February 1, 2019 she was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, which in September was resolved after Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy but eventually metastasized to her brain in February of this year. She was a fighter and never gave up and was always positive. She loved Jesus and always gave Him praise for the good and the bad in life. Margaret never met a stranger, her love and concern for people was truly evident the moment you met her and she would do anything for anyone.

Her true servants heart was an incredible blessing to witness and it will forever be a testimony to the amazing woman she was and her love for Jesus. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Teresa Arellano and Irene Giese; and brothers, Louis “Turk” Cervantes and Charlie Cervantes.

Surviving are her husband of 26 years, Kenneth “Scotty” Scott; daughters, Diane Norton and husband Christian of Selma, Kimberly McClure and husband Warren of Alaska, and Brenda Garner and husband Billy of Goldsboro; her brothers Robert Cervantes and wife Betty, and Richard Cervantes and wife Linda, both of Indiana; her sister, Mary Lou Hamilton of Indiana; her grandchildren, Dr. Kristen Jilg and husband Sascha, Kaitlyn Nenni and boyfriend Eli Rusk, Karoline Aycock, Warren McClure II and wife Karina of Texas, Dakota McClure, Daniel McClure, and Katrina McClure; great grandson, Warren McClure III; and her beloved Pomeranian, Kitty Noel.
