Smithfield—Margaret Southerland Driver, 95, passed away at her home on Sunday, November 4, 2018. Mrs. Driver was born on September 27, 1923 in Johnston County, daughter of the late Walter David and Pearl McDaniel Southerland. She graduated from Smithfield High School in 1944 and was employed by Carolina Telephone and Telegraph for over 33 years.
Margaret is survived by her sister, Ann S. Ballenger and her husband Ted of Greenville; nephews Tony Southerland of Clayton, Tim Southerland of Clayton, Phil Wood of Garner, Tommy Thompson of Greenville, David Ballenger of Greensboro; nieces Nancy S. Wise of Clayton, Carole Thompson of Virginia Beach, VA, Cindy Ballenger of Greenville, and many beloved great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters Ruby S. Wood and husband Deb, Christine S. Thompson and husband Irvin, brother J.D. Southerland and wife Joyce, nieces Jeni T. Lee and Kathy W. Frank.
Special thanks to Ruth Harper who provided Margaret with wonderful loving care for the last several years of her life.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Pisgah Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the funeral service from 2PM until 3 PM. Interment will follow at Hills of Neuse Memory Gardens. Friends may visit Underwood Funeral Home on Saturday, November 10th between the hours of 9AM and 4PM to pay their respects.
