Smithfield – Margaret Virginia Whittengton Underwood, age 94, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Liberty Commons in Benson. Born January 18, 1924 she was a daughter of Oras A. and Roberta Pleasant Whittenington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Daniel “J.D.” Underwood; three brothers; and three sisters. Margaret was a member of Unity Free Will Baptist Church in Smithfield.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Dan Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Monday just prior to the service.
Surviving are her sons, Robert Underwood of Hope Mills and Rev. Joe Dan Underwood and wife Janet of Greenville; sister, Glendora Maynard of Dunn; grandchildren, Amy Lee Fraley and husband Rye of Statesville, Robert Underwood II and wife C.C. of Jacksonville, FL, and Brandi E. Underwood of Aberdeen; great grandchildren, Reston Fraley, Ethan Underwood, and Kendall Underwood; and many nieces and nephews.
