Selma – Marilyn Rose Martin Jones, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, in her home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 13, 1945, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Thurman G. and Mildred C. Martin. She is preceded in death by her husband William H. Jones Sr., sisters, Sherill Rosiek and Louise Thorpe.
Marilyn was a member of Divine Crossings Baptist Church in Selma. Before retirement she worked at the Johnston County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years. She was known as a loving, caring and compassionate person to all who she met. She loved her family, her children, grandchildren, and all other members of her family. She was a hardworking, cheerful, and kind lady with a most gentle soul.
A drive-in memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Divine Crossings Baptist Church in Selma, with Pastor Ricky Anderson officiating.
She is survived by her, sisters, Jan Turner of Clayton, and Carol Holloman (husband Fulton) of Clayton, brother, Elton Martin, children, William H. Jones Jr. (wife Tina) of Harker’s Island, Tracy J. Vannurden (husband Michael) of Clayton, and Barry F. Jones (wife Lisa) of Raleigh, grandchildren, Bradley Hasty, Summer Jones Nelson, Chelsea Vannurden, Christopher Vannurden, Jason and Scott Jones.
