Selma – Mary Elizabeth Brewton Diegele, age 84, died Thursday morning, September 21, 2017 at her home. Born September 20, 1933 in Cleveland, OH she was the daughter of the late Kilby and Mary Anita Jane Howell Brewton. She was preceded in death by her great grandson, Justin Freeze. Mary had a Campfire Group and served as a Gray Lady with the Red Cross at the Veteran’s Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. After moving to Selma, North Carolina in 1991, she continued serving others. Mary joined the Meals on Wheels program in October of 2002 and began visiting about the same time, thanks to a neighbor, Lucy Stancil Howard. She also worked with Elizabeth UMC and Whitley Memorial UMC’s Migrant Mission and Whitley’s Grandma’s Pantry.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Susan Sexton officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday just prior to the service.
Surviving are her husband, Roger Diegele; daughters, Holly Baker of Spotsylvania, VA and Cindy Rosales of Lexington, KY; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
