Melvin Hugh “Badby” Pittman

    Selma – Melvin Hugh “Badby” Pittman, age 88, died Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield. Born August 5, 1928 in Johnston County he was a son of the late J. Hugh and Lillie Hopkins Pittman. He was preceded in death by his brothers, J.D. “Doc” Pittman, Paul Pittman, and Charles Pittman; and sisters, Eula Dale and Ruby Wood. Melvin served the Micro Community for many years in several different capacities. He served as the Police Chief and as a member of the Micro Fire Department until his retirement. Melvin was the owner and operator of Pittman’s Bar-B-Que/I-95 Seafood. He was also a member of Micro United Methodist Church.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pittman Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday just prior to the service.
    Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Doris Bailey Pittman of the home; son, Wayne Parrish and wife Judy of Newport; daughter, Pam Manuszak of Selma; sisters, Janice Gurley of Goldsboro and Betty Creech of Selma; and granddaughters, Lindsey Manuszak and Christen Manuszak.
    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Micro Fire Department, P.O. Box 300, Micro, NC 27555.
