Mewborn “Brack” Braxton Wilson, Jr., 75, of Clayton, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018. A native of Johnston County, Brack was born June 16, 1943 to the late M. Braxton and Ethel Benton Wilson. He graduated from Smithfield High School in 1961 and received his BS from Virginia Commonwealth University. Brack served in the US Army with the 3rd Armored Division in Germany. He was very proud to have served his country. After three years of service he returned home to Smithfield to join his father at Brack Wilson Ford. In 1973 he became president of Brack Wilson Ford Lincoln Mercury. He was also elected to a 2 year term with the Ford National Counsel, one of only 14 men to hold the position. Brack served as president of the North Carolina Consumer Appeal Court, which became national. In 1995, he sold the dealership and began a career in commercial real estate in Clayton.
He was a Mason – a member of the Granite Lodge 191 and achieved both the Scottish Rite & York Rite. Brack was a member and past director of the Royal Order of Jesters 145. He was also a Knights Templar. Brack was a member of the Johnston County Shrine Club and served 1 year as president. He was the director of Animated Animals and loved watching the children in the parades. He donned the Sylvester the Cat costume for 16 years. In 1995, he was appointed to the Sudan Shrine Divan. Brack was elected Potentate of the Sudan Temple in 2004 and in 2015 after serving on the Board of Governors for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, he served as president.
He enjoyed golf, photography, and traveling, but more than anything else, he loved his family and was very proud of all of their achievements.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 2pm in the McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel, 12830 US 70 Bus. HWY W, Clayton, NC 27520. The family will receive friends following the service.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Wilson; daughter, Paige Wilson Kostelnik and husband, Keith; sons, Brack Wilson, III and wife, Jorie, Chad Morgan and wife, Beth, and Bryan Morgan and wife, Lauren; grandchildren, Olivia Ball, Braxton Wilson, Charlotte Wilson, Nolan Wilson, Charles Morgan, Jonah Jackson, Ava Morgan, Cole Morgan, Luke Morgan, Lila Morgan, and Ella Morgan; and sisters, Dr. Susan Besio and husband, Jack and Jeanne Wilson.
