Mina Gray Weaver Tarkington passed away Saturday, November 09, 2019, at Smithfield Manor nursing home in Smithfield N C, following a long battle of poor health. She was 87.
Gray was born on May 1, 1932, in Bagley, N. C., she was the third child of Christopher and Daisy Weaver-a family that eventually would include 11 children (six girls and five boys). Gray married Richard A. Langley July 08, 1950 they had two daughters Janice Marie Langley and Teresa Gray Langley. Gray and Richard were divorced in 1968. Gray married Erwin O. Tarkington July 21, 1973.
After her retirement from Eaton Corporation she attended quilting classes at Johnston Community College. She loved to quilt and made the most amazing and beautiful quilts (all hand quilted). She also loved her flowers and had a green thumb. She worked in her yard that was filled with flowers and huge beautiful azaleas. She would work in her yard after having a stroke supporting herself with her hoe. Gray had a special little dog Rambo that was also the love of her life. Gray loved both of her girls with all her heart. She also loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved cooking and enjoyed having family come and eat with her. She knew what dishes each one liked and when they arrived they would have those dishes ready for them. Gray had a wonderful personality and people loved her immediately after meeting her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Byrd officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am just prior to the funeral service.
Gray is survived by her children, Janice Marie Langley, Teresa Langley Browning and husband Donald Browning. Four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. Two sisters Christine Narron and Josephine Davis, two brothers Sammy Weaver and Russell Weaver.
Preceding Gray in death was her husband Erwin O. Tarkington and three sisters, Lillian Liles, Melba Little, Nettie Lou Wainwright and three brothers, Leon Christopher Weaver, Jasper Talton Weaver and Paul Roosevelt Weaver, two grandchildren Jessica Renee McCullen and Joshua Clint Browning, one great child Taylor Ragan Hinnant.
