Nathanial Roberson, Jr.

    Birth Date: 02/18/1943
    Deceased Date: 02/28/2021

Nathanial Roberson Jr. affectionately known as “Monk” was born on February 18, 1943, and gained his heavenly wings on February 28, 2021, at the age of 78.

Monk was born in Lynchburg, SC where he attended Lynchburg Public Schools. While in school Monk met the love of his life Jimmie Lou Rose who would go on to be his wife for the past 61 years. To this union, 6 children were born.

Soon after school Monk and Jimmie settled in Stewart Florida where Monk found work as a Landscaper on Jupiter Island in Florida. The family stayed there many years before moving to our nation’s capital Washington DC and eventually settling in Seat Pleasant Maryland.

Monk enjoyed being outside so much he soon found work as a Foreman with Harkless Construction where he worked for 24 years.

Monk was happiest when spending time with family. On any day you could find everybody at the house waiting on Momma Lou to finish cooking so we all could eat and have many laughs with Daddy Monk around.

Monk and Jimmie’s last couple of years have been spent in North Carolina where his “Baby Boy” Eric has been their caregiver. Daddy Monk enjoyed fishing, traveling, working around the yard “or should I say giving orders”, storytelling and might I add he told some of the funniest stories ever. We would laugh until our stomachs hurt. He also enjoyed spending time with Auntie Gloria because she would spoil him and give him pedicures that he would talk about for months. Not long ago Gloria and Mickey took Daddy Monk and Momma Lou to the Casino and he bragged about how he tricked Auntie Mickey into pushing him around the Casino he thought that was the funniest thing since he claims he surely could have walked around by himself.

Above all these things Daddy Monk enjoyed his scratch-offs. I believe we all have had to make a scratch-off run for him. Believe it or not, Daddy had a winning streak at times, oh but if he didn’t, he would surely tell you “you got me a bad batch”

Nathanial “Monk” Roberson was loved by all and will be truly missed, however, we can all share our fond memories of how he brightened up our day and will forever remain in our hearts.

Daddy Monk was preceded in death by his parents: Mrs. Mary Lee Robinson and Mr. Nathanial “Brown” Robinson Sr., Brothers Levern Robinson, James “Mook” Robinson, and Dwight “Gurnus” Robinson; Sisters Willeen Wells, Janie Mae Robinson, Carrie Goodman, and Ophelia “Nank” Robinson; Daughters, Jennett Robinson and Brenda Robinson.
