Norma Jean Johnson McLendon

    Smithfield – Norma Eugenia Johnson McLendon, age 77, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021, in Franklin Manor Assisted Living Center in Youngsville. Born October 28, 1943 in Johnston County she was the daughter of the late Edward Raymond Johnson and Vashti Whitley Johnson. Norma Jean was an active member of Hopewell Free Will Baptist Church in Smithfield. After raising her children at home Norma worked for many years at First Citizens Bank in Smithfield and later for WMPM/WTSB radio station. She was also a member of the Smithfield Selma Band Backers, Ladies Auxiliary, president of the PTA, and a service leader for the Girl Scouts. Norma Jean enjoyed attending Carolina Hurricanes Games, bluegrass festivals and spending time with her grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2021 in the chapel of Hopewell FWB Church with Rev. Lewis Godwin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Monday just prior to the service at the church.

    Surviving is her husband of 58 years, Vernon McLendon; children, Eddie McLendon and wife Heather of Harrisburg, Jeannine Quiller and husband Brock of Raleigh, Scott McLendon and wife Heather of Raleigh; grandchildren, Cameron McLendon, Samantha McLendon, and Eli Quiller.
