Eliza Patricia Sasser Radford, “Pat”, went peacefully to be with the Lord on March 15, 2021. Pat was born on July 18, 1945 in Johnston County, North Carolina to the late Clyde B. and Hettie E. Sasser of Rains Crossroads. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Simpson “Simp” Radford Jr, and a brother, Buren Sasser.
Pat is survived by her family, Dexter, Amy and Morgan Radford of Wilson, Tyson, Traci, Garrison and
Caiden Radford of Kenly, sisters Emmalene S. Joyner and husband, Melvin of Chesapeake, Virginia, Jo Ann S. Woodard of Princeton, and special cousin Betty Bissett of Morehead City. Pat is also survived by her church family at Rains Crossroads Original Free Will Baptist Church. She leaves behind nieces and nephews as well as her sisters in law, Mildred Whitley and Sandra Stallings.
Pat attended Princeton School, graduating in 1963. After school, Pat moved to Raleigh to be a telephone operator before returning to Princeton in December 1963 to marry the love of her life, Simp. She continued her career with the phone company in Goldsboro until she came home to raise her family. In 1974, Pat began to fulfill her calling as a Teacher’s Assistant at Princeton School, where she finally graduated from the 2nd Grade in 2005, when she retired. Pat’s love for children was also evident in the many years she served as the VBS Director at Rains Crossroads OFWB.
Pat was a faithful member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the choir at Rains Crossroads OFWB. In her retirement, Pat loved spending time with her grandchildren, travelling with her sisters, and documenting our family’s life in her beloved scrapbooks. She loved to read and watch the Wolfpack play.
The family would like to express our great gratitude and thanks to Melissa H. Weaver and her staff at Always Compassionate Family Care for their loving and excellent care of Pat for the last five years of her life.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 – 8 in the Fellowship Hall at Rains Crossroads Church. The Celebration of Pat’s life will be Wednesday, March 17th at 2PM at Rains Crossroads OFWB Church, with visitation following the service.
