Micro – Peggy Batten Jones, age 86, died early Thursday, August 10, 2017 at her home. Born November 2, 1930 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late Ransom Frank and Minnie Rogers Batten. She was preceded in death by her husband, Derward Green Jones, Sr.; brothers, Thurman Batten, Russell Batten, and Leland Batten; and sisters, Estelle Martin and Molissa Batten. Peggy grew up going to church at Micro Missionary Baptist Church where she was a Girl’s Auxiliary Leader. Peggy was a member of Pleasant Plain Original Free Will Baptist Church for many years where she served as a secretary of the ladies auxiliary, card sender, youth leader, Sunday school teacher, and helped out for many years with Vacation Bible School. She had recently been attending Micro Original Free Will Baptist Church in Micro. Peggy enjoyed attending Gideon’s meetings with her husband Derward over the years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Nowell and Rev. Charles L. Renfrow officiating. Burial will follow in Micro Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Surviving are her son, D.G. Jones, Jr.; daughter, Fonda Jones Wheeler; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Wheeler, all of Micro; and brother, Frank Batten.
