Phillip Eddie Batten, age 75, of Selma passed away on Wednesday, February 06, 2019, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born in Carteret County on September 15, 1943, he was the son of the late Thamer Eddie and Mae Pope Batten. Phil was employed by the Town of Smithfield in the Water Plant. He was a US Army & National Guard veteran. In addition to being a wonderful husband and dad, he was a faithful member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church near Micro where he was a Sunday School teacher.
The family will receive friends at Fellowship FWB Church on Friday from 1-2 PM followed by funeral services at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Price Cemetery near Pine Level.
Surviving are his wife, Mardie Peedin Batten; sons, Phillips E. Batten, Jr. and wife Damaris of Sanford, Michael Rodney Batten of Smithfield; brother Billy Batten of Sanford; sister Carol Allen of Selma; grandchildren, Junior Perez, Eileen Fouquette, Elaine Yow and Jeremy Batten; great grandchildren, Isabella Yow and Logan Yow; and Mike’s friends, Kaseeno, Sammy, Jeff, Brandon, Jimmy and the RHA staff.
