Smithfield – Rachel Inez Higgins Massengill, age 63, died Friday morning, August 11, 2017 in the SECU Hospice House. Born July 23, 1954 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late David Glenn Higgins and Ruth Inez Brown. Rachel was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Selma.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2017 in Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Nichols officiating.
Surviving are her husband, Michael Massengill of Smithfield; son, Russell Bassan and wife Amy of Selma; daughter, Rebecca Hopkins and fiancé Christopher James of Angier; brothers, Thomas Glenn Higgins and wife Ruby of Smithfield, James Brown and wife Patricia of Wilson’s Mills, and Jerry Brown of Selma; sisters, Joyce Marie Higgins of Goldsboro, Delores Ann Jaggers and husband Jack of Willow Springs, and Sandra Gail Phillips of Goldsboro; and grandchildren, Jeremy Wayne Hopkins, Kristian Andrew Hopkins, Jasmine Sky Etheridge, Bryce Xavier Godiwn, and George Russell Bassan, III.
In lieu of flowers memorial contribtuions may be sent to Rebecca Hopkins, 15B Fieldale Drive, Smithfield, NC 27577, to help with funeral expenses.
