Selma – Rachel Mitchell Evans, 92, of Selma passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019. She was born in Johnston County on June 11, 1927 to the late Noah Mitchell and Ella Eason Mitchell. Rachel worked several jobs throughout her career; her last job was with the Selma Post Office as a rural mail carrier. She was a member of the Selma Presbyterian Church for 72 years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Norvell Evans; infant son, Douglas Neil Evans; sisters, Annie Mae Harrell, Estelle Jones, Sarah Mitchell; and brother, John Henry Mitchell.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma at 3:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service and at other times at 606 Howell St., Selma, Rachel’s home. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. in the Selma Memorial Gardens with Reverend Susan Sexton officiating.
Surviving are daughter, Debbie Evans and husband Tim of Smithfield; grandson, Nicholas “Nick” Evans and wife Ellie of Smithfield; sister, Mary “Lib” Allen of Selma; niece, Connie Bedford and husband John; and nephew, Dennis Harrell and wife Denise of Pittsboro.
