Kenly – Ralph Harold Hinnant, 93, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at his home. Born in Wayne County on December 17, 1930, he was the son of the late Blenn and Senie Scott Hinnant.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Janyce Bass Hinnant; sons, Alan Hinnant and Michael Hinnant; and brother Rudolph Hinnant.
Harold is survived by his grandsons, Adam Hinnant and girlfriend, Cecilia and Drew Hinnant and wife, Kathleen; daughter-in-law, Janie Hinnant; and daughter, Marian Hinnant.
Harold was a longtime resident of Kenly where he and his wife, Janyce raised their family. Very active in his community, Harold was a business owner and worked at Kenly Motor and Parts, a business his father founded in 1934. Harold served with the Kenly Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter for 37 years, serving as Fire Chief from 1970-1975. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, the Sudan Shriner’s Temple in New Bern, and the Kenly Masonic Lodge 257. Harold was a longtime member of Kenly Methodist Church.
A graveside service to celebrate Harold’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the Dixon Cemetery with Kenly Fire Department Chaplain Sammy Evans officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
