Smithfield – Rayland Lee Eatmon, age 83, died early Thursday morning, September 14, 2017 in the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born October 14, 1933 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Gar and Ida Grice Eatmon. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond Eatmon, Jadie Eatmon, and Roby Eatmon; and sisters, Ruby Woodard, Alma Corbett, Beulah Abbott, Delia Creech, and E.J. Brown. Rayland was a member of West Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Smithfield. He worked 19 years with Dupont in Kinston and retired as an OSHA consultant with the North Carolina Department of Labor with 23 years of service.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton with Rev. Ricky Hamm and Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Surviving are his wife of over 62 years, Jean Langley Eatmon of the home; son, Rayland Chris Eatmon and wife Carole of Smithfield; daughter, Sheila Eatmon Yelverton and husband Ricky of Goldsboro; brother, Jollie Eatmon and wife Sharon of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Ruby Eatmon of Benson; grandchildren, Jana Yelverton Hill, Jordan Yelverton and wife Jamie, Will Eatmon and wife Laura, Bryan Eatmon, and Morgan Eatmon; great grandchildren, Mollee Jo Hill and Mabry Blake Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
