Raymond High was born in Newport News VA, on October 14, 1958, to the late Mrs. Katie Wil-liams (High) Bellamy and Mr. Richard Nelson High. He was the fourth of five siblings.
When the family moved back to North Carolina, they settled in Oberlin Village and attended Wilson Temple UMC. His early public school education began at Oberlin Elementary School and Sherwood-Bates. He attended Josephus Daniels Jr. High and graduated from High Point Central High School in High Point, NC. Upon graduation, Raymond entered the US Army where he served for 8 years before being Honorably Discharged. Raymond held various occupations over the years and worked at ITT, Nationwide Insurance, NC State, Civic Center, Sheraton, and Brownstone Hotel where he was a Banquet Captain. Raymond loved food service- the preparation and presentation of the food was his passion. If there was a stove, oven, or grill, Raymond was in charge.
In his later years, Raymond attended Fairmont UMC, where he volunteered with the afterschool program preparing lunch for the children. He moved to Staten Island, NY, and there he had great family/friends. He was a soldier/servant, who loved serving others. He never met a stranger and would help anyone. He was a brother, father, and friend to many. He held special relationships with many people over his 61 years. He loved his family with whom he shared many memories. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael W. High.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Taka Yelverton and Kutora High; his grandchildren, Naji Yelverton, Arriana Crowder, and Amir Crowder; his great-grandchild, Aspen Yelverton; his siblings, Richard L. High, Anita High Savage, and Donald P. High; his brother-in-law, Timothy Savage; his nieces and nephews, Dewayne Brownson, Danny Daniels, Damion Yelverton, Delia High, Taylor High, Samuel Clark, and Nelson High; his cousins, Paul High, Fran Crump, Reid Williams Jr., and Jacquline Parker and his brothers for life, Willie Brockington, Phyl Wells, Hamish Hanes, Michael Rogers, Aaron Barrett, who came with his guitar and played and sang for Ray on September 10th, 2020, the day he transitioned from earth to heaven. He also leaves to celebrate his life a host of relatives and friends who are too numerous to name. He loved them all.
