Rector Creech Godwin

    Rector Creech Godwin joined her Lord and Savior in heaven on Saturday morning, August 29th, 2020. She passed peacefully at Clayton House, a dementia care community in Clayton, NC where she had resided the past eight months. Rector was born on December 2nd, 1928 to Leonard and Pearlie Narron Creech and grew up near Stancil’s Chapel on route 2 Kenly. Her husband of 71 years, Jessie Kenneth Godwin preceded her in death on December 25th, 2016. Kenneth and Rector were married on July 30, 1945. The Godwins moved to Mt. Olive, NC where Kenneth opened a watch repair shop and Rector worked at Whites department store. Both their children were born in Mt. Olive. In 1970, The Godwins moved back to Johnston County to be closer to their families. Rector worked at Kenly Elementary School and later at Glendale-Kenly Elementary School as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant. She retired after 22 years of service in the Johnston County public schools. Rector loved working with children and was happy to show her photo album containing the annual group pictures of the kids in her classroom. Rector is survived by her son, Dr. Bodie Kazan Godwin and three grandchildren, Sarah, Mary and Adam of Aurora, Illinois. Also surviving is daughter, Dr. Lisa Godwin Smith and husband Bob, loved as a second son, of Frederick, Maryland. Rector was very proud of her dearly loved family. She is survived by her sister, Mildred and husband Stuart Forbes of Los Alamitos, California, sister Dianne Boyette of Middlesex, brother Dr. Jan Creech and wife Francis of Selma and sister-in-law, Elgie Creech of Kenly. Rector, known as Aunt Reck to some leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Rector was preceded in death by brothers Rudolph Creech of Middlesex, Rev. Braxton Creech of Kenly, J.L. Creech of Kenly, Earsell Creech of Wendell and Lexter Creech of Moore’s School House. Rector was a long time member of New Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church where the funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, September 3rd at 10:00am. Rev. Jasper Renfrow and Rev. Danny Creech will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions made to New Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church and sent to Sue Hill, church treasurer at 6599 NC Hwy. 222 West, Kenly, NC 27542.
