Benson, NC: Mrs. Rhonda Kaye Thornton Benson, age 53, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM-Monday, September 27, 2021 at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson, NC. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson, NC. Rev. Marshall Stewart will officiate.
Rhonda was born on May 14, 1968 in Johnston County, NC. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Thornton; grandparents, Lemon and Lela Thornton, Leslie and Thelma Adams. Rhonda was a realtor. She owned and operated United Carolina Real Estate.
Surviving include her husband of 25 years, Don Benson of Benson; children, Kayla Quincey and husband, Heath of Jacksonville, Caroline Benson of Benson; expected grandson due October 2021, Lyle Clarke Quincey; mother, Melba Taylor and husband, Jimmy of Four Oaks; sisters, Angela Thornton and husband, Fredrick, Kim Matthis and husband, Elliot; nieces, Mindi Quinn and husband, Matthew, Tiffany Johnson and husband, Jeremy, Jade Anna King and Robby, Tori King and Eric; great-niece, Matilyn Quinn; great-nephews, Walker and Cooper Johnson; special aunt, Ann Barbour; special uncle, Ronald Adams and wife, Jane; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sharon and Floyd Strickland of Benson.
The family will receive friends immediately following the committal service at Roselawn Cemetery and other times at the home of Sharon and Floyd Strickland, 2734 NC Hwy 242 North Benson, NC 27504.
In accordance with NC-COVID19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing guidelines and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering. Face coverings are not required, but are kindly recommended for all services.
