Buies Creek, NC: Mr. Richard Wayne Hord, Sr., age 83, of 200 Mayberry Drive died Friday at his residence. Graveside Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier.
Mr. Hord was born on November 25, 1934 in Kings Mountain, NC to the late James Wayne and Myrtle Williams Hord. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Marie Dean Hord and son, Richard Wayne “Ricky” Hord, Jr., siblings, Michael Hord, Glenda Hord Davis, David Hord, Jerry Wayne Hord, Audrey Hord Bundy, and Kenneth Hord. Mr. Hord was a retired engineer with Southern Railway and was also a US Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. Mr. Hord was a member of Banner Post 109 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Angier Post 6983 where he served as past post commander and quartermaster with the VFW. He was also a past member of the Buies Creek Fire Department. Mr. Hord was a deacon at the former Community Chapel Church and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are his fiancée, Carolyn Chambers of Roxboro; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Hord Stephenson and husband, Keith of Lillington, Renee Hord Cantrell and husband, Roger of Buies Creek; grandchildren, Derrick and Casey Cantrell, Erica Cantrell and Robert Gurganus; great-grandchild, Natalie Marie Cantrell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Douglas and Renate Hord of Fayetteville; and Joe and Della Hord of Southern Pines; sisters-in-law; Faye Dean Smith of Angier, Doris Hawley Carroll of Willow Spring and brother-in-law, Jerry Dean of Angier; many nieces and nephews; two special cats, Starr and Tiger.
The family will receive friends 12:30 PM -1:30 PM Saturday, July 28, 2018 prior to the graveside service at Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Coats.
