Smithfield – Royce Orren Johnston, age 68, died Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Barbour Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Smithfield. Born December 16, 1949 in Syracuse, NY he was a son of the late Fred and Dorothy Catherman. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Roland Johnston, Oce Johnston, and Orrin Johnston; and sister, Evelyn Arliss.
The family will receive friends at the home of Walter Ducey, 319 Powhatan Road, Clayton, NC 27527. A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the same address.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Martina VanValkenburgh Johnston of the home; sons, Walter Ducey (Katherine) of Wilson’s Mills, Michael Johnston (Renee) of Clayton, Joe Johnston (Ronda) of Johnson City, TN, and Steven Johnston (Susie) of Kenansville; brothers, Ronald “Ronnie” Johnston and Olen Johnston, both of NC, and Lester “Sonny” Blavelt of NY; sisters, Elaine Eggerling of AZ, Ellen Washburn of NY, and Brenda Frutis of TX; grandchildren, Karie Talley (Sasha), Ryan Johnston (Kelsi), Tabatha Ducey, Calvin Johnston, Ashley Johnston (Joseph), Daniale Johnston, Cody Johnston, Kara Bear, Genna Becker, and Matt Becker; and great granddaughter, Charleigh Fry.
