Russell Lee (Rusty) McCray, age 75, of Selma passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. Born in Johnston County on October 16, 1945, he was the son of the late Robert Ira and Mamie Edwards McCray. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Judith Brantham and Jannie Thompson; and by his cat “Smokey”.
Rusty was a member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed cruises, fishing and yard work. He was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
The family will receive friends at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma on Friday from 6 – 8 pm. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm in the Brown-Garner Cemetery on 1598 Rhondale Road near Selma.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Garner McCray; sons, Christopher McCray and Ashley of Kenly, Jamie McCray of Micro; two grandchildren, Bladen and Lincoln McCray; a brother, Robert “Bobby” McCray of Texas; sisters, Donna Johnson of Selma, Connie Coughlin and Bob of Selma; brother-in-law Walter Thompson, and several loving nieces and nephews.
