    Obituary

    Sallie White, the daughter of the late Suddie Bynum Edwards and Alonza Edwards, was born in Wilson County, North Carolina on November 28, 1921 and promoted to glory on September 19, 2018 at Wilson Assisted Living in Wilson, North Carolina.

    Sallie was united in Holy Matrimony to Norman White in Wilson, North Carolina. There were no children from this union.

    At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a devoted disciple of Christ. Sallie was educated in the Wilson County Public School System. In 1939, Sallie and Norman relocated to Washington, DC. Sallie worked as a child care provider for many years before working at the General Services Administration and retiring in 1985 with over 30 years of federal government service.

    Sallie continued to walk in faith she joined Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church in Northwest, Washington, DC under the pastorate Reverend Burnette. There she enjoyed singing in the choir, she sang and traveled with the Sincere Echoes of Greater Mount Zion for many years. In February 1989, she joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Lucius Dalton where she served faithfully working in the Evangelism and Share Ministries, preparing sandwiches and feeding the homeless until her health declined.

    Sallie truly loved her family, she enjoyed cooking and entertaining at family gatherings, she was always the life of every family event. Sallie loved to shopping, she was a sharp dresser and was always a very stylish lady. She also enjoyed exercising and long walks to the park, she would walk eight blocks to Lincoln Park daily.

    Sallie was 96 years old at the time of her death. Her brothers Archie Edwards, Edward Gray Edwards, James Edwards, Rathel B. Edwards, JC Edwards, Otis Edwards, George T. Edwards and sister Adell Edwards preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory one sister Gloria Bates of Wilson, NC, two sister-in-law’s Ara “Kitt” Edwards of Wilson, NC and Annie Edwards of Landover, MD and host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
