Smithfield: Mrs. Shirley Stephenson Jernigan, age 84 of 119 Castle Drive died Friday a UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Officiating will be Mr. Dale Morgan, Mr. Donald Creech and Mr. Clint Jernigan.
A native of Johnston County she was the daughter of the late Lucille A. and J. Shepard Stephenson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie B. Jernigan, son, Mitchell Jernigan, sisters, Lottie Pleasants, Inez Woodall, Mary Benson and brother, Chester E. Stephenson. Mrs. Jernigan was a loving wife and homemaker. She was a caregiver to her husband many years before his death and also a retiree from Burlington Industries in Smithfield.
Surviving include, sons, Michael B. Jernigan of Smithfield and Jimmy and Renee Jernigan of Clayton; grandchildren, Clint Jernigan and wife Mary, Chase Jernigan and wife Mary, Michelle Young and husband, Robbie, Calvin Jernigan and wife Jennifer, Lauren Sanders and husband Matt, and Bruce Jernigan; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Creech and husband, Donald, Margie Barefoot and husband, Keith, and Delene Johnson; many nieces and nephews; special caregiver, Peggy Parrish;
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:30 PM -2:45 PM prior to the service at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.
