Smithfield – Shirley Mae Jones Barbee, age 81, died peacefully Sunday, January 8, 2017 at her home. Born September 23, 1935 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late Major Everett and Ethel Inez Lee Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Dennis Barbee; brother, James Jones; and sister, Doris Lempe. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church in Smithfield. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, and Nana.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12. 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Colbert officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Thursday just prior to the service.
Surviving are her sons, Jim Barbee and fiancée Melanie of Garner and Bill Barbee and wife Wendy of Four Oaks; daughters, Tina Mills and husband Ken and Jenny Pope and husband Jeff, all of Smithfield; grandchildren, Tiffany Broughton and husband Doug, Lee Gay and wife Ashley, Lindsey Pritt and husband Nathan, Liz Barbee, and Logan Barbee; and great grandchildren, Tanner Broughton, Tucker Broughton, Kendall Pritt, and Parker Gay.
