Sybil Langdon Wall Johnson, age 88, went home to be with the Lord on April 27, 2018. Born on October 11, 1929 in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Lemuel and Mattie Onie Lee Langdon. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, April 30, at Pisgah Baptist Church, Hwy 210, Smithfield, NC. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 5:30 – 7:00 PM, just prior to the service and at other times at the home of Gloria Simmons, 209 Everett Lane, Smithfield, NC. Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday in the cemetery at Pisgah Baptist Church.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her first husband of 40 years, Douglas Braxton Wall; her second husband of 7 years, Charles Parker (C.P.) Johnson, Jr; two sisters, Patricia Josephine (Pat) Langdon Johnson and Marchetta Ladoska (Dot) Langdon Herring; son-in-law H.T. (Tom) Waits; grandson, Joe Mike Baker; step-daughter, Priscilla Johnson Weaver; and sister-in-law Rena Hayes Langdon.
Surviving are her daughters, Gloria Wall Simmons and husband David of Smithfield, Kathryn Wall Waits of Kinston; her son, Stephen Douglas (Steve) Wall and wife Angie of Wendell; step-daughter Bonnie Johnson Capps of Smithfield. She is also survived by two brothers, Walter Langdon of Clayton and Lawrence Langdon (wife Rosalyn) of Four Oaks; and one sister Grace Langdon Hudson (husband Leon) of Smithfield. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Johnson was a long time member of Pisgah Baptist Church, where she kept the nursery during Sunday School there for over 52 years. In this position, she saw many of the babies she looked after during Sunday School grow up to have babies of their own and then she took care of those babies (and even some or their grandbabies). She was the President of the church’s JOY Club (Just Older Youth) and enjoyed getting together games, programs, and activities such as shopping trips for the active seniors at the church. She was also a long time member of the Four Oaks American Legion Auxiliary and held the office of President there for many years.
