    Thomas Edison Sullivan, 93, passed away on Sunday August 1, 2021. Born in Johnston County on July 15, 1928, he was the son of the late, Herman and Pearlie Avery Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan was a watch maker for 45 years. He was a veteran of the the US Army, serving in WWII and also in the Korean Conflict. He served in Germany as a watch maker. Thomas developed the North Chase Housing Community.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Thursday August 5, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Smithfield, with Reverend Lee Colbert officiating. Burial will follow at the Sullivan Family Cemetery near Selma. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 prior to the service. The family also requests that all guests wear a mask and observe covid protocol.

    Surviving is: wife Shirley Pilkinton Sullivan of the home; daughters Shannon Haywood and husband Miles of Wilmington, NC, and Tanya Mustgrave and husband David of Smithfield; 5 grandchildren, Annie Haywood, Emma Haywood, Hayden Haywood, Drew Mustgrave, and Megan Mustgrave; and one great grandchild to arrive in October 2021. Mr. Sullivan was preceded in death by his 5 siblings as well as his parents.
