Selma- Vernell Royals Harvey, age 80, died peacefully Monday, January 30, 2017 in the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born May 29, 1936 in South Carolina she was a daughter of the late Samuel Thomas and Bertha Livingston Royals. She was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel Thomas “Tommy” Royals, Jr. Vernell worked for over 20 years at Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield and was a member of First Pine Level United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Bolyard officiating. A private burial will be conducted at Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service at Pine Level First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband of over 53 years, Robert Lee Harvey, III of the home; sons, James Thomas “Jim” Davis and wife Rebecca Williams Davis of Smithfield, and Robert Lee “Rob” Harvey, IV and wife Jerrianne Inscoe Harvey of Wake Forest; sister, Amelia Bland of Durham; grandchildren, James Thomas Davis, Jr., Minda Harvey, and Megan Harvey; and great granddaughter, Katherine Halley Davis.
