Virginia Strickland Hopkins, 71, passed away peacefully at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, surrounded by her family, on April 17, 2018. She was born on April 21, 1946, and grew up in Wilson’s Mills. She was the youngest daughter born to Leemon Talmadge and Mary Gillespie Strickland. Her daughter, Sarah Hopkins Bradley, and two brothers, Thomas Strickland and Robert Strickland predeceased her.
Virginia began working at First Citizens Bank in 1967 and had a long 50+ year career with the bank. She was the long-time assistant of Mr. Frank B. Holding, Vice Chairman of the bank. Virginia was known for her generosity and love of people and animals. She often sent cards and notes and kind thoughts of encouragement to other people. Many bank customers relied on her assistance and considered her as The Person to get things done. She had a reputation for problem solving and going to great lengths to get things right. She will be missed by many customers, friends and bank employees who enjoyed knowing and working with her. Virginia will be especially missed by the Holding Family who considered her one of the family.
A graveside service will be held at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday in the mausoleum at Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the home of her granddaughter, 262 Clayton Pointe Drive, Clayton, NC. 27520.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband, James L. Hopkins; four grandchildren, Megan Bradley Williams (Rob) of Clayton, Taylor Bradley Dotson (Tyler) of Puerto Rico, Michael Bradley (Michelle) of Four Oaks and Brandon Bradley (Ashley) of Benson and five great-grandchildren, Luke, Caroline, Tucker, Tanner and Trace. She is also survived by a sister Connie Potter of Wilson’s Mills
