Walter Landis Howell

    Smithfield – Walter Landis Howell, age 78, died Monday, March 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Born November 7, 1938 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Nelson and Beulah Braswell Howell. Landis was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Pine Level VFW Post 9564. Landis was a member of Steven’s Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, youth leader, and Sunday school teacher, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Ownley and Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. Burial will follow in Creech Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Thursday just prior to the service.

    Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Oliver Howell of the home; son, Danny Ray Howell and wife Sherry of Micro; daughter, Tevnan Keller and husband Chris of Smithfield; brother, Orlanda Howell of Princeton; sisters, Marie Talton and husband Bill of Princeton, and Alicia Rose Johnson and husband Rex of Princeton; grandchildren, Sgt. Derek West and wife Heather, Remington “Lance” Howell, and Hailey Keller; and great granddaughter, Chloe Mae West.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Steven’s Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund, 2850 Stevens Chapel Road, Smithfield, NC 27577.
