    Selma – Willard Auburn Brown, age 104, died early Monday morning, January 15, 2018 in Meadowview Assisted Living in Smithfield. Born August 29, 1913 in Johnston County he was a son of the late William Argo and Blanche Wall Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Christine Wilson Brown; son, Willard A. Brown, Jr.; and many brothers and sisters. Willard was a member of Carter’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Selma.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2018 in Carter’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Sitter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Monday just prior to the service.

    Surviving are his son, Tim Brown and wife Anne of Durham; daughter, Janet Brown Dowis and husband Joe of Seneca, SC; daughter-in-law. Eunice Holbert of Black Mountain; brother, Herman Brown of Selma; sister, Margaret Upchurch of Raleigh; grandchildren, Alicia Dowis Furness (Martin), Amy Dowis, Joe Dowis (Katie), Christine Rosseau (Jean-Michel), Stephen Brown, Dakota Brown, Keely Brown, Christine Parks (Nick), Hunter Simpson (Emilie), Susannah Simpson, Valerie Holbert (Jeremy), and Dean Holbert; daughters-in-law, Noel Grady- Smith and Jacqueline Evers; and nine great grandchildren.
    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Carter’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3644 Old Beulah Rd, Selma, North Carolina 27576, or, a charity of one’s choice.
