William Daniel “Bill” McArtan, age 81, died Thursday morning, June 24, 2021 in Smithfield Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Smithfield. Born August 28, 1939 in Johnston County he was a son of the late Northie and Mary Pendergraft McArtan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Colon McArtan; and sister, Annette McArtan. Bill’s passion was baseball, quail hunting, fishing and camping on the Outer Banks. He served with the Army in France and Germany where he continued to play baseball as a catcher for the Army. Returning home, he and his father started McArtan Concrete Construction. He was a member of Post 405 American Legion. Mentored by many friends in the AA, he became a mentor to others. He loved his family and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2021 in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening just prior to the service.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary McArtan; sons, William Kelvin McArtan of Pine Level, Kenneth Brian McArtan and wife Tina of Hampstead, and William Daniel McArtan, Jr. and wife Rebecca of Newport; brother, Northie “Bull” McArtan, Jr.; sisters, Judy McArtan Wiggs and Becky McArtan Richardson; grandchildren, Jonathan McArtan, Andrew McArtan and wife Hannah, Karyn Shinn and husband Daniel, Caroline McArtan, Laura McArtan, Alex McArtan, Brian McArtan II, Makenna McArtan, and Christian McArtan; and great grandchildren, Kendyll Shinn, Mackenzie McArtan, and Allie McArtan.
