William (Bill) James Harrell-Shipley (61) left this earth to enter his eternal paradise on July 9 2021. Born to parents James C. Shipley and Susie Irene Shipley in Baltimore Maryland, he was preceded in death by them as well as his sons Jamie and Matthew Shipley. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving husband, Holden Harrell-Shipley, of the home, his sons William Shipley, Nick Shipley, Adam Shipley, daughter Amanda Shipley, as well as his daughter in love Nadia Salamea. He leaves behind brothers Jim Shipley, Shane Walker, Edward Walker Jr., and Edward Grant Mullin; sisters Regina Allen, Tanya Walker Schup, Karen Walker, and Lorraine Mullin-Palmer. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren whom he was incredibly proud of, as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved fur babies CowDog, Dakota, Delilah, Destiny and Dallas.
Funeral services will be held at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, North Carolina July 24, 2021 at 2pm with Captain Adrian L. West officiating. Burial will follow on a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
After serving in the Coast Guard for 21 years and reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Bill retired to become a teacher, teaching NJROTC across many schools; and finally at Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center as The Assistant Aquatics Director. Bill touched the lives of everyone he met and was never one to back down from a challenge. His love, laughter, sharp wit, stubbornness, and positive attitude coupled with his genuine disposition and strength to always do what’s right will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
