Mrs. Willie Mae Watson was born October 3, 1918 to the late John (Pete) Jones and Mary Jackson Jones in the Hookerton Township, Greene County, NC.
Moving to Smithfield, she worked in domestic service for Dr. Massey, and Judge Johnston. She also worked at Bright Leaf Tobacco Factory. She soon started working for The Frank Holding Family and remained with the Holding family until her retirement.
She was a faithful member of St. Peters Church of Christ, D.O.C., serving as a mother and usher (which she enjoyed) for many years.
She was married to the late Johnnie P. Watson Sr. whom preceded her in death. Through their union seven children were born. Preceding her in death were two of her children Mildred A. Watson and Johnnie P. Watson Jr. Left to cherish her memories are Ernest Watson (Sadie) of Dudley, NC, Douglas P. Watson (Brenda) of Selma, NC, Maxine W. Ramos of Smithfield, NC, Moses L. Watson of Smithfield, NC, Lewis Watson (Diane) of Four Oaks, NC., Daughter-n-law Mildred Carpenter of Selma, NC, and one brother Sam Jones of Rocky Mount, NC. She was also blessed with 29 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives whom adored and loved her.
Funeral Services will be held Sat. June 2 at St. Peter Church of Christ DOC, viewing begins at 11:00 am funeral services at 12:00 noon. Walk-thru viewing will be held at the Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremation Chapel 302 S. Bright Leaf Blvd Smithfield, NC. on Friday June 1 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
