    Wilma Inez Hawley, age 92, passed away on Mother’s Day Sunday May 9, 2021. A visitation will be from 1:00-2:00pm on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats, NC. Followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 pm in the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Coats, NC. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (Old Field) Cemetery. Rev. Randy Anderson will officiate.

    She was born July 8, 1928 in Harnett County to the late Ernest B. Jernigan and Mary E. Holmes Jernigan. As a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her life revolved around faith, family and community. On May 5, 1950, Inez married William Basil Hawley where the two enjoyed a loving relationship that endured many years.

    Together, during his career in the United States Air Force, they moved across the country from Georgia to North Carolina, Texas to Florida as well as an earlier overseas tour in France returning to Harnett County, North Carolina in 1972. As a skilled seamstress, she would make clothes for her children. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and believed strongly that the compassion and abilities she possessed were gifts from Him and how she selflessly gave of herself to others was her gift to Him. She was a member of Coats Community Church.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Ralph and Linwood Jernigan and sisters Ruth Williams, Mildred Weaver, and Marie Dorman. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, William B. Hawley of the home, two daughters, Gail Hawley Dixon and husband Jay Dixon of Fuquay-Varina and Janet Dale Hawley Allen of Dunn, and two sons, Andy L. Hawley of Dunn and David Hawley and wife Judy of Hope Mills, six grandchildren Crystal Hawley of Coats, Ava Dixon Mills and husband Christopher Mills of Garner, Julia Norman and husband Daniel Norman of Coats, David Dixon of Garner, Robert Allen of Dunn and Andy L. Hawley, Jr. and wife Logan Hawley of Dunn, and six great-grand-children, and her brother Harold Jernigan.

    In accordance with NC-COVID -19 guidelines, the funeral home suggests practicing social distancing and the three W’s: wait, wash, and wear a face covering when indoors.
