Smithfield – Wilma Jean Hayes, age 89, died Thursday, June 27, 2019 in Smithfield Manor Nursing and Rehab in Smithfield. Born November 2, 1929 in Johnston County she was a daughter of the late James Carson Hayes, Sr. and Diana Edwards Hayes. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ethan Hayes and Raymond Hayes; and sisters, Elgia Fish, Pauline Eakes, and Emma Lee. Jean was a member of Smithfield First Free Will Baptist Church and was active in the Democratic Party in Smithfield. Jean loved spending time with her family and friends, painting, dancing, and gardening whenever she got the chance.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2019 in Smithfield First FWB Church in Smithfield. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Monday just prior to the service at the church. Burial will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in Pauline Baptist Church Cemetery in Four Oaks.
Surviving are her son, Kim Allen and wife Beverly of Sanford; daughter, Hope Johnson and husband Earl of Clayton; brother, J.C. Hayes, Jr. and wife Mary Lee of Surf City; sister, Lillian Gray Pronier and husband Bob of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Matt Johnson and wife Aimee, Dana Leung and husband Tim, and Kaitlin Allen; and great grandchildren, Laurel Johnson, Logan Johnson, Ava Leung, and Keira Leung.
