Smithfield – Winfred Harvey “Wink” Cockrell, age 90, passed away Tuesday July 17, 2018 at the Brian Center in Clayton. Born in Johnston County on June 23, 1928 to the late Harvey Rabon and Ethel Faulker Cockrell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Cockrell; and a son, Ray Cockrell; Brothers Norman and Marshall Cockrell; Sisters Louise Wise and Faye Haugh. Wink was a member of New Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church in Kenly and a veteran of the United States Army.
A visitation will take place from 6PM-8PM Friday, July 20, 2018 at Parrish Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted on 11AM Saturday July 21, 2018 at Hill of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield with Rev. Danny Creech officiating.
Surviving are his son, David Cockrell of Smithfield; daughters, Peggy Powell and husband Ronnie of Smithfield and Debbie Jones of Smithfield; daughter-in-law, Janice Cockrell of Smithfield; sister, Barbara Diven of Blairsville, PA; grandchildren Robbie Powell, Stephen Jones, Kristina Benson, Melissa Parnell, Dave Cockrell, and Susan Culbreth.; and twelve great grandchildren.
