Mayor Jody McLeod and the Clayton Town Council adopted a proclamation Monday night naming October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The proclamation said one in three Americans have witnessed an incident of domestic violence. Children that grow up in violent homes are believed to be abused and neglected at a higher rate than the national average.
The Town also recognized Harbor of Johnston County and other local organizations and individuals who provide support for victims of domestic violence.
