Off Duty Police Officer Charged With DWI

An off duty police officer found herself on the wrong side of the law following a weekend traffic stop in Johnston County.

A state trooper was on patrol on Cleveland Road near Highway 42 around 2:00am Saturday and spotted a car speeding. The officer stopped the vehicle and after conducting a field sobriety test arrested the operator on the suspicion of driving while impaired.

Meredith Renee Sherian, 42, of Majestic Oak Drive, Garner allegedly refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test at the Johnston County Courthouse.  Trooper C.O. Best obtained a search warrant for a sample of Sherian’s blood.  The sample was sent to the SBI lab for analysis.

Sherian, a Raleigh police officer, was charged with DWI and speeding 55 in a 45 mph zone.

A magistrate required Sherian to provide her fingerprints. She was then released from jail on a $1,500 bond pending an April 25th trial date.

Raleigh Police would not comment on her arrest however Laura Hourigan a department spokesperson did confirm Meredith Sherian is currently assigned to the Raleigh Police Special Operations Division. Sherian has been with the police department since July 2005.
