BENSON – Numerous law enforcement officers are on the scene of an officer involved shooting. The shooting was reported around 11:00am in the 400 block of E. Branch Street in the Benson city limits.
Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Bengie Gaddis said Johnston County deputies, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, NC SBI and federal ATF were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a suspect. A Johnston County deputy shot the suspect in the wrist during an incident outside a home.
The suspect has been transported to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries. No law enforcement officers were injured.
The NC SBI is investigating the officer involved shooting, which is standard procedure.
Benson Police have cordoned off the area with crime scene tape.
