Buies Creek – Emmanuel Olenga and Jaquan Brooks have both been named Pioneer Football League Players of the Week, as announced by the conference Sunday.
Olenga was named the league’s defensive player of the week after posting a school record 4.5 sacks, adding 10 tackles total in the Camels’ 2017 opener. Olenga, a redshirt sophomore in his first game as a Camel, also forced and recovered a fumble, sacking MU’s Steve Keoni early in the third quarter, giving Campbell the ball back on the Methodist five yard line.
Brooks was named the PFL’s special teams player of the week, returning five Methodist punts for a Campbell record 141 yards, adding a touchdown in his 2017 debut. His first punt return of the night went for 53 yards, going to the MU 11. Later in the first quarter, the redshirt sophomore took a punt back 54 yards for the touchdown. The 54 yarder is the second longest punt return in CU history.
Campbell rolled to a 70-0 win over Methodist in its season opener. The Camels tallied the second-largest scoring total and margin of victory in the program’s Division I era (since 2008) behind a 76-0 win vs. Apprentice on Sept. 10, 2011.
The shutout marked CU’s fourth all-time. 10 different Camels found the end zone in the win.
Campbell returns to action at Barker-Lane Stadium this Saturday, September 9thin a 6:00 p.m. kick-off against Georgetown.
