LILLINGTON, N.C. — A three-vehicle collision late Tuesday night along U.S. Highway 421 left one man dead and sent several others to the hospital, authorities said.

First responders were dispatched around 9 p.m. to the intersection with Willie Cameron Road, west of Lillington, after reports of a serious crash. When emergency crews arrived, they found a chaotic scene.

According to a preliminary investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash began when a northbound Jeep attempted to make a left turn across southbound traffic.

The Jeep, driven by William Alan Henderson, 62, of Lillington, pulled into the path of an oncoming Hyundai traveling south. The impact pushed the Jeep into another vehicle — a northbound Tesla — resulting in a chain-reaction crash involving all three vehicles.

Henderson was transported by Harnett County EMS to a nearby hospital, where he later died in the emergency department.

At least six people in total were taken to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
